Well, I saw The Doctor’s Daughter for the first time last Sunday, and it was great. Really, really good. Astonishingly, it wasn’t written by Steven Moffat. I would dearly love to see Jenny again, and – with any luck – we will.
Meanwhile, Steven Moffat has won the Hugo Award for the third time running, this time for Blink. I have no doubt he deserved it for that astonishing story. The Long Form Best Dramatic Presentation Award went to Stardust, which was one of my favourite films of last year (I consider it to improve on the novel, amazingly).
I’m terribly out of touch with modern sci-fi, though. The only current writers I’m reading are Peter F. Hamilton, Lois McMaster Bujold and Jack McDevitt. Did I recognise the winner of the best novel? Not a chance. (The Yiddish Policemen’s Union by Michael Chabon) Hmm. Has anyone read it out there and can tell me whether it is worth reading?
And would David Brin please write another book in his Uplift series?
Jenny was just cast in a new BBC production, but hopefully that wouldn’t interfere from a visit to Doctor Who.
