Well, I’m playing a noble. And, as normal, a human noble. (The alien races in Star Wars don’t appeal to me at all… they never have for role-playing purposes).
I’ve been toying the idea of this well-born military nut, who hasn’t been able tostay in the regular (imperial?) navy due to his problems with accepting commands from above that he doesn’t agree with. As I write this, I realise that I’m talking about someone a lot like Miles Vorkosigan. (If you don’t know who Miles is, you really should find out. He’s one of the finest SF characters ever created!)
Well, my version of Miles won’t have his physical problems. Well, not as severely. And probably won’t be as manic. But it’s a nice way to start the character. Hey, I’ll even steal his name.
Miles Starkiller!
Oh, wait – Starkiller is a bit too pretentious. 🙂
Miles Corrigan
I may need to work on his surname. Any suggestions?
We’re using 28 point buy according to Martin, so…
Str 8, Dex 14, Con 10, Int 16, Wis 12, Cha 16.
Hmm… that’s 0+6+2+10+4+10=32 points. Four points over…
Ability Scores: Str 8, Dex 13, Con 10, Int 15, Wis 11, Cha 16.
As I think I’ve mentioned before, I hate low Int and Cha characters!
Being Human gives me a bonus trained skill, and an extra feat.
Noble? 18 hp, 5 force points, +1 Reflex defense, +2 Will defense, Linguist, Weapon proficiency with pistols and simple weapons. +0 attack bonus. And 8 trained skills; 9 once I count the bonus.
Skills: Deception +13, Gather Information +8, Knowledge (bureaucracy) +7, Knowledge (galactic lore) +7, Knowledge (tactics) +7, Perception +5, Persuasion +8, Pilot +6, Use Computer +7
Ah, a starting talent! Born Leader sounds good. It’s a bard talent: +1 to everyone’s attack until they can no longer see me. 🙂
Feats: Linguist*, Skill Focus (Deception), Point Blank Shot.
Languages: Basic, but what else? It’s not like I’m every sure which creatures I’ll run into. I get five extra languages, so let’s take Binary, Bothese, High Galactic, Huttese and Zabrak. Who knows if any may be helpful…
Defenses: Reflex +3, Fortitude +0, Will +2
Base Attack +0; Melee -1; Ranged +1
Starting Credits: 1600 credits. That’s low for a noble. Hmm.
So…
Blaster pistol (500 cr, 50 cr license fee)
Datapad (1000 cr)
And that leaves me with the princely sum of 50 credits. Hmm. Well, it’s not like the characters in Star Wars have lots of stuff, although I’d rather like my own starship. Hmm…
More about Miles’s background will come to me through play, I guess. Military family, overachiever, problems with authority… well, trouble in following orders, at least. I think Miles likes authority, it’s just he thinks he knows best. Heh. How does he know the other characters? Well, I’m pretty sure he’s the first character to be created, so they might need to work out how they know him. And, let’s face it, the entire set-up of this campaign is a bit misty to me.
Another 10 days to go!
