The other book I picked up recently was Ysabel, by Guy Gavriel Kay. I haven’t written much about what I read, but Kay is one of my all-time favourite writers. Nearly all of his books are classics of the fantasy genre. Well, in my opinion they are. 🙂
Ysabel is a more subdued work than the regular style of Kay’s work, but very charming indeed. Unlike the rest of his books, it’s set entirely in our world, with resonances back to his original Fionavar Tapestry trilogy. It’s also a much shorter work than most of his books.
I really enjoyed Ysabel. I didn’t even know it was out – it was just there when I walked into Borders in Melbourne (my first trip to that store!) I was there to pick up a copy of The Chronicles of Amber for Sarah, and found Ysabel as well. Happy, happy!
I’m also looking forward to reading Ysabel once I managed to find a copy, especially after hearing the Kay interview at trashotron
