This weekend saw our regular boardgame day be preempted by the Magic 2010 core set release. (Why is it called 2010 when it’s actually 2009? Apparently, because it’s less confusing once it’s being sold in 2010. It does actually make some sort of sense).
I had a horrible first round, paired against a deck which just was death to small creatures – of which I had too many. Giant Spiders are terrifying. And then there were Whispersilk Cloaks to make it so I couldn’t even block his attackers. Urgh. After that, I won the next four rounds, which left me in 5th place overall. Craig won the prerelease with an ok deck. He thought it was hopeless, everyone else found it unbeatable. Just shows you about Sealed Deck!
I also played a M10 draft, which I won.
It’s a fun set.
Rich turned up for the evening at Good Games (no sign of Randy!), and got involved in first a game of Last Night on Earth, and then a 5-player game of Battlestar Galactica (Popey had requested that I bring in my copy of the game, and I complied – I played Magic instead, but it was really fun to watch them try to identify the Cylons). That game ended with a horrible death for all of the Galactica crew – every dial was in the 1-3 mark at the end…
I’ve picked up a few new wargames: a few from the Great Battles of History series (Richard Berg and Mark Harmen) and a new CDG: Unhappy King Charles! I’m looking forward to playing them. Oh, and I now own Small World and the second Race for the Galaxy expansion as well. 🙂
