A Time of War – BattleTech RPG 4E

It’s getting closer to the date when the latest (4th?) edition of the BattleTech RPG will be released – “A Time of War”. Catalyst Labs have posted the Quick-Start Rules for the game, but – alas – no adventure yet.

I’m getting very interested in running a BattleTech RPG campaign or minicampaign. I’ve been picking up a wealth of information about the Jihad Era, which would seem to be an enjoyable time to run a game. Of course, I’d also have to design an adventure, which would be challenging. There’s a reason I mostly run D&D – it’s the system I find easiest to create adventures for! Modern games tend to be a lot more freeform… and also don’t have the massive support that D&D has.
However, the Jihad books all have this thing called the “Chaos Campaign” – a group of linked scenarios that can be adapted for the BattleTech boardgame, the Aerospace game… or the RPG. So, with some work, I could use that. Could be fun.
Of course, the next problem is one of time: When would I run this? I’m not really wanting to stop running one of my two fortnightly D&D campaigns, but our gaming schedule is somewhat packed…
Of course, first for the book to actually come out, whenever that may be (Catalyst are a lot better than MMP at releasing product, but its been somewhat erratic since WizKids folded and the rights needed to be renegotiated – PDFs, yes; print, no.
