My latest parcel from Mind Games arrived today. It contained the deluxe edition of Twilight Struggle (with nicer counters and board, and a few new cards); the Altar of Despair expansion for Descent, and the Farmers of the Moor expansion for Agricola.
I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if Randy and I relaunch our Thursday wargame activities in a couple of weeks with a game of Twilight Struggle. It’s been entirely too long since we last played it.
At present, I’m playing a lot of boardgames. That’s mainly because I’ve been going into Good Games Ballarat every Saturday afternoon, rather than just having a boardgame day every fortnight. I expect that I’ll continue this through 2010 – although a few of those Saturdays may be at Randy’s place instead. The advantage of being at Good Games is that I’m likely to find quite a few players there – especially Nash, Derek and Sara. The advantage of Randy’s place is the number of boardgames that are on the shelves. Plus, Randy tends to be there – although he’s been otherwise busy a lot recently.
Meanwhile, apart from writing lots of session reports (and not playing solo games), I’ve reread Brandon Sanderson’s books – Elantris and the Mistborn Trilogy and The Gathering Storm. His latest (solo) book, Warbreaker, is now on the way from Amazon. He’s a truly amazing writer – very talented. The Gathering Storm is one of the best Wheel of Time books; unfortunately, we have to wait (again!) for the final two to come out.
I’m back at work, doing the little things that I need to do before the school year spins up and I’m deluged in reports again. I’ve moved offices, so I’m no longer sharing, but, as I enjoyed the company, it’s not entirely a good thing. Oh well. I expect a few of my boardgames will end up being stored in my office; there isn’t quite enough room at home for them all!
Roleplayingwise, we have an important session of the Greyhawk campaign this Friday, assuming I can pull it off. Then the next session of Demon Queen’s Enclave on Tuesday, which is going incredibly well. At some time I need to schedule some Doctor Who, but I just need a couple of other things to calm down first.
Good memory!
Hi Merric, Jeremy here. Enjoyed reading that – well done for remembering in such detail!
