A few weeks back, the group ran into an eccentric wizard, who gave the two magic-users with the group Brand New Spells. So brand new I hadn’t invented them yet. And I kept forgetting to create the spells for them.
Well, Jesse is going to be happy next session, because here is my Brand Newest Spell for AD&D.
Robur’s Remarkable Robes
Level 4 Components: V,S
Casting Time: 1 turn Duration: 6 turns/level
The casting of Robur’s Remarkable Robes creates a set of magical clothing around the user of an unpredictable nature. As the caster gains more control of the magic, the caster can use the spell with more predictability.
When cast, the caster should roll a six-sided die for every four levels they have (one for level 7, two for levels 8-11, etc.), and select one of those dice to show the version of the robes they have created.
1) Glistening Shards: The magic-user creates robes made of glittering crystal and metal shards that deflect attacks away from the user, granting a base armour class of 3. Unfortunately, whilst the robes allow spell-casting, they are quite noisy, reducing surprise chances to 1 in 6.
2) Extendible Sleeves: The magic-user creates a set of brown robes with extra-floppy sleeves, which can be extended at will to work as dual ropes of climbing and ropes of entanglement. The magic-user can only command one sleeve per round to work as a rope of entanglement.
3) Winter Robes: The magic-user creates warm furry robes, which protect him from the extremes of cold weather and cold attacks in the same manner as a resist cold, albeit with a greatly extended duration.
4) Resplendent Robes: The magic-user creates robes of great beauty and grace, allowing him to act as if his or her Charisma score were four points higher (to a maximum of 18).
5) Robes of Gliding: The robes created are large but can be pulled taught with a command, allowing the magic-user to float downwards slowly (c.f. featherfall) or glide with a 10′ drop for every 50′ glided.
6) Robes of Mimicry: The robes allow the magic-user to command them (taking 1 segment) to form a duplicate of the magic-user to all perceptions, which mimics any action the magic-user might do, thus confusing opponents as to which is the proper target. Even illusionary blood appears when the robes are struck, continuing the illusion. The robes can act in this manner for one turn in every hour.

No idea if it’s balanced or not, but it sure looks fun for Jesse to play with. 🙂
