The latest playtest packet has arrived for D&D Next, and it comes with character generation! This, of course, requires some rescheduling to place it into our busy role-playing schedule, and the most likely place to put it is in play of my D&D Greyhawk campaign (not disrupting the newly started Marvel campaign seems like an idea). I’ll require one session to finish up the current quest in Greyhawk, and following that we can return to some playtesting.
Character options currently available include the cleric, fighter, rogue and wizard, with racial options of dwarves, humans, elves and halflings. There are also various backgrounds and themes. Apparently an adventure will also be arriving next week (most likely they want to preview it at GenCon).
So, in a little over two weeks, we’ll have our first session with the new packet. Exactly what we’ll be doing with it will depend a lot on whether I like the provided adventure or not – I have enough to create my own adventures, and I’m quite happy to try that out. The adventure will be set – more than likely – in some part of my World of Greyhawk. I’m welcome to suggestions as to where it should be. (Ulek? City of Greyhawk? Great Kingdom? Furyondy and fighting the orcs of Iuz?)
First look indicates that it might be quite deadly at first level, but we’ll have to see how it goes. The Sleep spell has changed, although the number of hit points it affects looks underpowered – and there’s a significant chance it will have no effect at all.
Let me know the type of character you’d like to play – and if you have any requests as to the setting of the adventure.
