Stargate: the Ark of Truth

Well, I’ve just bought and watched Stargate SG-1: The Ark of Truth.

It’s cool.

The Stargate SG-1 series did things with the concept that was (badly) explored in the original movie that have thrilled and astounded me, and then have taken it to realms that have made it one of my favourite TV shows of all time. I am surprised and astounded that I was willing to pony up aus$30 for this direct-to-DVD movie where I wasn’t willing to do the same for Babylon 5: The Lost Tales. Hmm. I love B5, but I think I feel that its story has really been told (although I’d have loved to see what happened in Crusade). Stargate, however, left a couple of big plot hooks outstanding.

The Ark of Truth finishes up the Ori storyline, which, to be honest, hasn’t always been my favourite storyline on the series, although it’s had some excellent moments. It’s not always a smooth ride in the story, either, but it’s event-filled, has some great music, Teal’c gets some wonderful moments, and overall I’m happy with it.

Oh, and Carter has long hair. What’s up with that? (I rather like it, though).

So, Stargate Atlantis is still going for the time being (for a lot longer, I hope… I really like the characters – especially McKay and Shepard), and we still have Stargate SG-1: Continuum to come.

Bring it on!

  1. Merric,

Trust me, you don’t want to know what happened in Crusade. You’re better off viewing it as something that was announced but never developed.

  2. Saw Ark of Truth a few months ago (it got leaked on the internet long before it came out on DVD). I honestly don’t remember what I thought of it, but I was at least satisfied. The quality of the rip was terrible.

I’ve gotta get the DVD eventually… Already own all 10 seasons of SG-1.
