More games (and books)

MilSims are back from their holiday back in Canberra, and so have sent me (and it’s arrived) some of my last order. Within the box:

BattleTech: Total Warfare – the rules to the game
BattleTech Map Set Compilation 1 – 24 maps for BattleTech
BattleTech Map Set Compilation 2 – another 22 maps
Open Grave – the undead book for D&D 4e
Open Grave was surprisingly weighty; I love the cover! Not had much of a chance to read it yet – I was somewhat distracted by Total Warfare. It’s interesting to see how many of the Total Warfare rules I already know. Apart from covering BattleMechs, it also covers VTOL aircraft, vehicles (tanks) and infantry. Oh, and naval ships & subs if you feel like that sort of game.
Yesterday I also bought book 3 of that series by Brent Weeks that I posted about. It’s sitting in my bag; if I’m lucky, I’ll get to read some of it during lunch today and after work.
BoardGameGeek is back after its big upgrade… and it’s still really buggy. Argh! I hate that. There’s a couple of session reports (including last weekend’s BattleTech game) I want to upload, but will I be able to? It’s not good to write the report and then see it disappear into the aether. (Yeah, I’ll make a back-up copy on my computer).
Talking about computers, our home one still isn’t back from being repaired. It broke on Boxing Day… my stepmother is getting withdrawal symptoms, it seems. (She uses it mainly for e-mail, but that’s a really important tool).
This weekend is being somewhat disrupted by family and fun; Martin & Peggy are off to be entertained, so no Star Wars RPG this Friday. Instead, I’m organising some BattleTech (surprise, surprise). It should be a lot of fun for everyone who comes; we’re holding it at Randy’s place in Sebastapol, which is pretty central. One of the battles I’m planning involves 14 BattleMechs on the table at one time – eight of them running for the far side of the map, the other six trying to intercept them. Should be fun.
Saturday, when I was to be having a Board Game Day with Randy & company, looks like being a day when I see my brother for the first time in a few months: he’s been overseas. He spent Christmas in Salzburg and New Year in Paris. 5 weeks in Europe with his wife; I think he really enjoyed it, but I’ll be finding out soon.
Thursday evening will be wargaming with Randy in the evening. I’m still not sure which games to play. Have to look through the collection…
