Why I don’t write more reviews

I tend to post quite a bit, which might be understating it a tad, and I certainly write a lot of session reports. My reviews have also been generally well received… but why aren’t there more of them? There are two major reasons: The first is this: I find a good review a lot of work. There’s analysis involved, a description of what the game … Continue reading Why I don’t write more reviews

Something is wrong here.

There’s a new Angus & Robertson bookstore in Wendouree village, within walking distance of my work. That’s great – although they don’t have the range of SF/Fantasy that Melbourne has, there’ll still be some things I want to pick up. Unfortunately, I have to put up with the stupidity of Australian book prices. Consider this – the Laurell K. Hamilton mass-market paperback is aus$23. It’s … Continue reading Something is wrong here.

Poker set

I’ve just bought “Poker for Dummies”. Why did I do that? Let’s face it… I know how to play Poker. I’m not bad at it. The reason: The chips. I wanted some cheap poker chips, and it was selling at half-price. Are the chips for playing Poker with? Not a chance. Well, it’s unlikely. I actually got them for Power Grid and possibly Three Dragon … Continue reading Poker set

A few new DVD purchases

This week, I’ve bought a few DVDs… Around the World in 80 Days, starring David Niven. It’s a classic “cameo” film, in which the object of the film, it seems, is to see how many famous actors you can get into it at once. Niven won the Oscar for this film, probably as a tribute to all his other films… Citizen Kane, starring Mr Welles. … Continue reading A few new DVD purchases

Othello – Bell Shakespeare Company

I went to see the Bell Shakespeare Company’s production of Othello on the weekend. I generally enjoy Bell’s productions of plays, most of which I’ve seen when the company has toured Ballarat. Travelling down to Melbourne to watch it was a first for me. Unfortunately, the experience was not a good one. The trouble can be laid at the feet of the lead actors, who, … Continue reading Othello – Bell Shakespeare Company

Urg.

I’m ill. Again. Or perhaps it’s the same cold… just gone into remission for one week and now back again. It’s not too bad, but my nose is spending a lot of time wanting to be somewhere else, and my head feels like it’s made of cotton wool. And it’s not like I can spend time away from work at present. I should be ok … Continue reading Urg.
