Weekend games

Well, it began on Friday morning, when I took my “Science of Board-games” class through a quick game of Ticket to Ride. From there, I happily went to Sarah’s place for my second session of Star Wars Saga edition.

Unfortunately, Adam had neglected to tell us that he wasn’t coming on account of the plague. So, Rob, Sarah and I had to play boardgames instead. The agony! The agony!

We played…
Chrononauts – Bouncing around Time & Space
Zombies!!! – Trying the quicker version
Ticket to Ride 1910Coming from behind in 1910
Shadows over CamelotKnights Valorous We! Knights Valorous Three!

The less said about my part in Ticket to Ride the better. Sarah was glorious, however. 🙂

After that, I went to Martin’s for our regular installment of the Savage Tide game. The PCs had been shipwrecked, so now it was time for them (and their not-so-trusty NPC companions) to make their way down the length of the Isle of Dread to a place of safety.

Giant birds, dinosaurs, and undead attacked them. I gave XP to them for avoiding threats, and added in the Second Wind rules from Saga to make up for the fact that Rich the Cleric wasn’t there… I’ll keep those rules for all my games, because I think they make them more fun.

Saturday saw me visit Melbourne and then Randy’s. Craig was the only other one of our boardgame crew to be there, but we played a *lot* of new games.

Here’s my Saturday:
Here’s a handy reference to the day:
9am – catch train to Melbourne
10.30am – reach Melbourne; go to Mind Games and Minotaur and buy things.
12pm – catch train back to Ballarat
1.30 pm – arrive in Ballarat, have lunch
2.30 pm – arrive at Randy’s and begin gaming…

12.00 am: 1 final game of Drakon – http://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/1727559

Oh, Drakon is really, really good – a light, fun game with plenty of theme, a surprising amount of tactics, and something I really want to introduce to my roleplaying friends.

When I got home, I watched Doctor Who – The Sound of Drums. Good episode, though not as stunning as Blink. I’ll watch it again, though.

Sunday I dozed a lot. 🙂

So that was my weekend. I’m getting interested in the latest iteration of the Classic Battletech Introductory Set – $65 for two double-sided paper-thin maps, 16 plastic mechs, and some introductory rulebooks. Seems like a good price, so I’m very much thinking of picking it up when it comes into MilSims, especially given I’ve a few friends who enjoy the game.
