Dice! and other stuff

I’ve just ordered some Game Science Precision dice from MilSims. With any luck, they’ll arrive early next week, and for the first time I’ll have dice that are properly random, rather than weighted. Heh.

Dice are interesting things. As a DM, I tend not to worry about the randomness of dice too much – I roll so many, and the PCs are there or not at the end of it. However, as a player, I’m far more interested in how well my dice are rolling. As I’m soon to be playing in two D&D 4e games, it behoves me to get some dice that will satisfy that.

I’m playing a Ardent in one campaign and I’m planning to play a Wizard in the other; playing a Wizard will be interesting, especially with all the Area of Effect powers I’m taking. The Wizard is looking extremely controllery, with low damage output but a lot of annoy the opposition powers. -2 to all attacks as an effect? Ooh, that looks good.

Whilst my Ardent is the High-Cha, Med-Int character, the Wizard is the High-Int, Med-Cha character. I made sure to take Diplomacy, just because I hate sitting there silent when negotiations are going on. He’s likely to be a more active and less depressive character than my Ardent though (for which the other players are going to thank me!)

I’m looking forward to running some more Call of Cthulhu, but illness has been my scourge of late: the last week hasn’t been good. We’ll probably end up with 6 weeks between the two sessions of a two session adventure! Ow. Oh, well.

Arriving in the post yesterday were a couple of interesting additions to my game collection: an unpunched set of Greyhawk Wars which cost me not that much (it’s not unpunched any more!), and the Call of Cthulhu campaign Tatters of the King, which would greatly amuse Sarah if she gets to play in it, given her interest in the personage of The King In Yellow. I’m very much looking forward to the reprint of Masks of Nyarlothotep later this year.

  1. I obtained a copy of Hackmaster 5th Edition at the Ennies silent auction at GenCon this year, and it has an ENTIRE CHAPTER on dice care and dice rolling. 🙂
