Dark Sun Campaign Setting… at last!

Well, it’s finally gotten to Ballarat: the 4e Dark Sun Campaign Setting, and both Josh and I have our copies.

Unfortunately, there’s no sign of the Creature Catalogue yet. I hope that it isn’t too far behind. Tell me again why we had the Dark Sun Game Day a week-and-a-half ago when there was no Dark Sun product available in Australia?
In any case, the books looks pretty nice. It’s not much of a surprise that the theme for my wizard character will be that of a member of the Veiled Alliance. I gain one interesting encounter power out of that: Excise from Sight. +7 vs Will, 1d10+4 psychic damage and you or one ally within 10 squares of you becomes invisible to the target until the end of your next turn. It’s an interesting power: a slightly more powerful Eyebite (Warlock At-Will Attack 1). It works nicely in combination with my Unspeakable Tome.
One thing that will possible change with my character is a new background: one that permits me to take the Bluff ability instead of Diplomacy. Why Bluff? Well, I’m using the illegal Arcane magic, so I need to disguise it as something else, don’t I? 🙂
More of my character’s personality will develop as we actually start the game and Josh works out where the game is going. Mere things like “where we all came from” aren’t even close to being resolved…

  1. If it makes you feel any better, I don’t have the Creature Catalog either- I think WotC’s hardcover with a softcover price confused Amazon. Should have it tomorrow though.
