Two packages arrived today. One of them held a lot of dice (5 sets) as I need to replenish my supply – some of mine have rolled off somewhere. And the One Ring RPG (Adventures on the Edge of the Wild)… the new Lord of the Rings RPG by Cubicle 7.
It looks lovely. Two poster maps, two softcover books, 6 speciality dice all in a slipcover. I’ve got absolutely no idea when I’ll get the chance to play it. (Do any of my friends even want to play in Middle Earth?) But it’s pretty and it has got a fascinating system.
The other package was from GMT Games – my preorder of Chad Jensen’s new boardgame, “Urban Sprawl”. The early reports indicate that it’s quite a bit more chaotic than Dominant Species, and I hope to play a couple of games over the weekend. At 45 minutes per player, it’s not a very short game – that’s moving up into Through the Ages territory – but it should be interesting.
Otherwise, I’m planning a few extra adventure hooks for my players in the Greyhawk/Lost City campaign: the gods are paying attention to the characters now, and there’ll be a few omens coming up. Running it just as a “hunt Archibald” game is proving problematic: it needs to develop more in the upcoming sessions.
