No, not the roman general.
Agricola is the new Eurogame getting a lot of chatter on boardgamegeek, and I now happen to have a copy in my possession. It’s not my copy, but Mike’s, and he’s lent it to me in preparation for the game day on Saturday.
It’s around 1670. You’re in central Europe somewhere. You have a 2-room hut that you live in with your partner (wife or husband). Now all you have to do is build up your hut and the fields around it to make the best farm you can.
Doesn’t sound like the best thing to hit the gaming world last year, does it? However, all reports are that it’s extremely engaging. 1-5 players, and 30 minutes per player.
The catch, of course, is that this copy is German… the English version won’t be out until later this year. So I have to learn the rules and teach everyone else with a German set of the game. At least the rules have been translated…
That actually sounds like it could be fun. SimCity on a very localized level. Or SimFarm, I guess.
The other thought going through my head, which is probably pretty far off, is one Knights of the Dinner Table story where they played Farmer: The RPG. And, damn if they didn’t make that sound amusing.
I LOVE Agricola. I’m still waiting on an English copy (because my OCD nature can’t handle stickers on cards) but I played the German version and had a blast.
Yeah; I think for this Saturday we’ll use the “Family” version so we don’t have to contend with translations of over 200 cards! But I’ve been trying the game solo, and hoo boy it plays great. 🙂
Star Wars (Dawn of Defiance) on Saturday… time to see whether my PC is in heroic Miles form, or unheroic “Giles” form. So far, he’s been knocked unconscious (normally without doing anything in that combat) in 50% of sessions…
