D&D Adventurers League at PAX Australia 2018

It’s almost time for PAX Australia 2018, and, for the fourth time, I’m organising the D&D Adventurers League content at the convention. A team of 27 D&D DMs and organisers is travelling to the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre to help run the games. What’s on offer?

INTRODUCTION TO D&D – DDEX01-01 Defiance in Phlan (90 minute sessions). Levels 1 & 2.
Back to the start of the Adventurers League with these classic scenarios by Shawn Merwin.

The AL didn’t release a set of short adventures this season, but they’re too useful for us, so we’re returning to these scenarios, aimed mainly at new players. We’ve never run them at PAX Australia before, though! And they’re great adventures, set in the seaside town of Phlan.

WELCOME TO WATERDEEP (180 minute sessions)
DDAL08-01 The Map with No Names
DDAL08-02 Beneath the City of the Dead
DDAL08-03 Dock Ward Double Cross
These are the first trilogy of adventures of the new season. Explore the City of Waterdeep, greatest city in the Forgotten Realms! (At least they tell me it is!)

They feature a strong blend of role-playing, combat and exploration.

AUSTRALIAN-MADE (180-minute sessions)
CCC Trouble Under Winton by Micah Watt
When a sinkhole opens up and swallows a local tower, the local people need brave adventurers to investigate. Guess that’s you! This challenging scenario will be run by its designer (and other of our DMs).

All sessions are for Tier 1 (level 1-4) characters. I’ll be paying attention to the skill level of players joining. The primary audience at PAX Australia are people who have not played much D&D before, and likely few if any Adventurers League games. However, this is the fourth year, and if there’s a big demand by more experienced players, I’ll see if I can fit in some games of higher levels.

The trouble is that we have only 8 tables on which to run these games. As we discovered last year, that’s not enough – alas, at present there’s no room to expand.

However, PAX Australia isn’t the only convention in Melbourne in the near future that’s offering D&D Adventurers League games. Consider also attending:

Arcanacon – Saturday January 26th – Sunday January 27th, 2019. (Facebook)

Conquest – Friday April 19th – Monday April 22nd, 2019. (Facebook)

I’m hoping to offer new adventures, Fai Chen’s Fantastical Trading Faire, and an D&D Epic at one or both of these more RPG-focused conventions. Watch this space for more information. If you’re interested in helping run them, or just want more information, please contact me at merricb@yahoo.co.uk
