Castle Greyhawk – session 4

We had our fourth session of my 4e Castle Greyhawk campaign on Friday, which is using the currently released “Castle Zagyg” supplements of the Troll Lords as a base. It was a blast – in about 4 hours of game time, we had 3 combats (probably taking no longer than 90-120 minutes in total), and 2+ hours of insane plans and roleplaying. You see, the … Continue reading Castle Greyhawk – session 4

D&D 4E – Stealth errata

This errata is from the D&D Rules Compendium; I expect it’ll be put in the official errata document when that is next posted. Note that you can’t become hidden in “Concealment” – sorry, Nate! STEALTHArmor Check PenaltyMake a Stealth check to conceal yourself from enemies, slink past guards, slip away without being noticed, and sneak up on people without being seen or heard. This skill … Continue reading D&D 4E – Stealth errata

Yggsburgh

Well, Yggsburgh and Dark Chateau arrived in the mail yesterday. Yggsburgh is not what I was expecting. A little history: Gary Gygax invented D&D, and his campaign was all around Castle Greyhawk and the Free City of Greyhawk. Unfortunately, he was kicked out of TSR in 1985 or thereabouts, and much of his Greyhawk designs never saw print. Eventually, due to the d20 System and … Continue reading Yggsburgh

Doctor Who, Yggsburgh and other things

Doctor Who was merely “ok” on Sunday (Planet of the Ood), as compared to the awesomeness that was The Fires of Pompeii the week before. I made up for that with watching two classic Dr Who stories I’d just picked up – The Curse of Fenric and Ghostlight. They’re two of my favourite stories from the classic era, both from the final series before the … Continue reading Doctor Who, Yggsburgh and other things

The trouble with speciality priests

Once upon a time, there were these D&D designers who decided that clerics were boring. Why should every cleric have the same powers, even though one cleric was a priest of the god of battle, and another was a priest of the god of love… Now, all of this makes a lot of sense. It really does. Why should the powers that one god grant be … Continue reading The trouble with speciality priests

Musings on Keep part 3

Greg, Mat and half of Sarah were absent for this session (Sarah counts as half because she was half asleep)… the nett result of which was to cause a curiously disjointed session, at least to my mind. I don’t think the weather was helping. A lot of the customary banter was missing and it was fascinating to see how much less of a “life” the … Continue reading Musings on Keep part 3
