Sword and Dragon – Basic Mission Analysis

Basic Mission Analysis:The various mission tracks show signs of good ideas not properly thought through. Why do you gain bonus points if its raining (making it harder to hit) in a Recon track where there is no Salvage option… so only helping the player?  I’ve just done some analysis of the potential WP rewards from each track. This assumes you manage to salvage an average … Continue reading Sword and Dragon – Basic Mission Analysis

Sword and Dragon – Maintenance and Updates

For those uninterested in my BattleTech posts, I’d advise looking elsewhere. This is going to be one of a series of posts looking at the Starterbook: Sword & Dragon campaign from the perspective of someone who is currently playing it, and finding one or two relatively minor problems that need fixing… or just wants to tinker with it a bit. So, here’s the first bit to … Continue reading Sword and Dragon – Maintenance and Updates

BattleTech: Sword & Dragon notes

I was just reading some excellent blog entries over on the Scrapyard Armory page, and I noticed some discussion of damage to Mech Warriors in the Chaos Campaign (an extension of the Warchest campaign that we use our BattleTech Sword & Dragon campaign). Let’s face it: there aren’t any rules in S&D about damaged warriors. Do they heal? How quickly? My thought is that in future … Continue reading BattleTech: Sword & Dragon notes

Ad Astraing again

It’s the first real week of term for the year, and I’ve just taken my really dedicated boardgame students for their first class. They were wondering when we could start on the first day of schooland now they’ve organised everything. Regular Ad Astra classes won’t start up until about week 4 or so, but we’ve already started. I introduced them to a game they hadn’t played … Continue reading Ad Astraing again

Boardgames and Roleplaying Weekend

Friday Night saw our brave adventurers investigating rumours of a cult of Iuz in the Free City of Greyhawk, which appears to be led by their one-time-friend. It’s fun to have a PC turn evil, and the players were all very enthusastic to have Adam’s old PC, Archibald, be the villain for the course of this campaign. I’m happy to accomodate that, although it’ll be … Continue reading Boardgames and Roleplaying Weekend

Lifestyle hobbies

I’m attracted to too many lifestyle gaming hobbies. What’s a lifestyle hobby?  It’s a hobby that basically requires you to devote a lot of time to it, over an extended period. D&D is my pre-eminent lifestyle hobby. It’s one I’ve been playing now for (eek!) 28 years or so. That’s quite a chunk of my life, when you think about it. I spend about 16 hours … Continue reading Lifestyle hobbies
