…but I still like Paizo

It’s a funny thing, but with the end of D&D 3e, I seem to be now buying some of the OGL products. Oh, I wanted to before, but being in rural Australia does make it quite a lot more difficult to get those products. Especially when you’re not being paid very much and you don’t have a credit card. I’m being paid (slightly) more these … Continue reading …but I still like Paizo

Last 3.5e books, and first C&C books.

MilSims has delivered the final 3.5e books I ordered about a month ago. So, that’s that for 3.5e purchases, I guess. For those who are interested, the books were: * Cormyr: the Tearing of the Weave* Shadowdale: the Scouring of the Land* Fortress of the Yuan-Ti Together, they finished off two 3.5e adventure trilogies. Yeah, I know… I had part 3 of the Realms trilogy … Continue reading Last 3.5e books, and first C&C books.

The trouble with speciality priests

Once upon a time, there were these D&D designers who decided that clerics were boring. Why should every cleric have the same powers, even though one cleric was a priest of the god of battle, and another was a priest of the god of love… Now, all of this makes a lot of sense. It really does. Why should the powers that one god grant be … Continue reading The trouble with speciality priests

Anzac Day D&D

Our Savage Tide campaign got underway again last friday. It currently has the PCs exploring the City of Broken Idols on the Isle of Dread. We had two new players (Nate & Adam) replacing our departed-and-sorely -missed friend Rob, and our “I’ve got a job”-friend Craig. Bradford missed the session due to unspecified reasons, as is becoming unfortunately usual. Without Bradford, it’s a lot trickier … Continue reading Anzac Day D&D

A Farewell to 3rd Edition – part III

The second encounter of this final D&D 3.5e session hadn’t taken much time at all, and it looked like the same would be true of the third. This wasn’t a session with a lot of roleplaying and exploration it; it was all about resolutions. Things I’d set up years before were finally playing out in their final form. One of the really nice things about … Continue reading A Farewell to 3rd Edition – part III

A Farewell to 3rd Edition – Part II

The first encounter of our final 3.5e session had taken a little over an hour, I think, although with the confusion of people arriving and just greeting each other, it might not have been that long. Perhaps more to the point, the combat had only just reached its 5th round. The Ogres and Blasphemes got to act twice each; old father Copperleaf had four actions … Continue reading A Farewell to 3rd Edition – Part II

A Farewell to 3rd Edition – Part I

Earlier today, I ran my final homebrew 3.5e D&D session. There are still a few Savage Tide sessions to go, but I don’t anticipate that I’ll be creating my own adventures for 3.*e any more. The players were stupendous – they defeated everything I threw at them, and managed to surprise me with things I really didn’t expect. This post is part one of a series … Continue reading A Farewell to 3rd Edition – Part I

Savage Tide musings

We’re half-way through the Savage Tide adventure path! Isn’t that great?! Most of the PCs have reached about 12th level, which is a little low, but is the result of having 6 PCs. For the most part, I think they’re handling the challenges well enough. The last session was a bit more hairy than normal due to players being missing, but as Martin’s wizard PC … Continue reading Savage Tide musings
