500 session reports!

Yay!  As of today, I’ve now written five-hundred session reports for BoardGameGeek. I rather happy about this. Have the session reports gotten better as I’ve written more of them? Honestly, I don’t think so. I think they’ve become more colourful, especially once I started borrowing my father’s digital camera to illustrate them and then bought my own. However, I do so much gaming that sometimes … Continue reading 500 session reports!

Star Wars RPG – Defying the Empire!

Our most recent session of the Dawn of Defiance campaign, which we played last Friday, was the best so far, thanks in no small part to Martin’s running of the module. He put in a vehicle depot not mentioned in the adventure because it made sense (as there were vehicles harassing us elsewhere), which led to the wonderful experience of Nathaniel and Adam stealing a couple … Continue reading Star Wars RPG – Defying the Empire!

More BattleTech reports

Well, I’ve now posted reports of the 7-8 hours of BattleTech we played on the weekend. It was hot, but we had a lot of fun. First Mission: Supply Run – 4 Mechs of Sorenson’s Sabres vs 4 Davion Mechs. Second Mission: Pursuit – 6 Mechs of the Fox’s Teeth vs 8 Kuritan Mechs. The reports include pictures as well as commentary. 🙂 Thanks for … Continue reading More BattleTech reports

Ad Astraing again

It’s the first real week of term for the year, and I’ve just taken my really dedicated boardgame students for their first class. They were wondering when we could start on the first day of schooland now they’ve organised everything. Regular Ad Astra classes won’t start up until about week 4 or so, but we’ve already started. I introduced them to a game they hadn’t played … Continue reading Ad Astraing again

Themes and plotlines in my Friday 4E campaign

With us getting back to speed with our roleplaying campaigns, I thought now would be a nice time to discuss the Castle Greyhawk campaign and where it’s going. Because – as you might know by now – I don’t have a clue! The original concept for the game was mostly as a dungeon-delve campaign centred about Castle Greyhawk (using the Castle Zagyg material from TLG), … Continue reading Themes and plotlines in my Friday 4E campaign

4Eing the Hall of Many Panes

Due to one thing or another, my 4E Castle Zagyg campaign has taken a detour into Gary Gygax’s “Hall of Many Panes”, appropriately subtitled “an Adventure of Significant Length”. I picked it up for $10 during the recent TLG liquidation of their LA/d20 products (at the same time that I bought the Upper Works for full price). Although this campaign began in the same tactical … Continue reading 4Eing the Hall of Many Panes

Thunderspire Oops (some spoilers)

My group finally (after seven sessions) finished Thunderspire Labyrinth. In contrast to the Friday campaign (more on which in a later post), the Sunday campaign has been running in a fairly by-the-book and tactical fashion.  Brief summary: Friday: 4e, no minis, more freeform, lots of roleplaying and exploration Sunday: 4e, minis, more combat and tactical play Due to the holiday period, the attendance recently has … Continue reading Thunderspire Oops (some spoilers)

Battlestar Galactica: the Board Game

We broke in my shiny new copy of Battlestar Galactica on Monday evening with six of us getting together to take the game through its paces: Randy, Rich, Josh, Adam, Pat and myself. Some eight hours later, we tottered off home, having experienced a couple of the best games we’ve played. Paranoia, co-operation, and a fair deal of brig time had combined to give a … Continue reading Battlestar Galactica: the Board Game

Good gaming in the Labyrinth

Yesterday, we had the latest session of our Thunderspire Labyrinth D&D 4e game. I’m very glad to say that it went much better than the last one, and I enjoyed it tremendously. Greg was able to make this session, so we had six players plus one DM (that was me, if somehow you haven’t worked out I’m normally the DM for D&D sessions around here). … Continue reading Good gaming in the Labyrinth
