The City of Greyhawk campaign – all 40 sessions

I notice with some interest that we’ve reached 40 sessions in our City of Greyhawk campaign. I spent a few hours last night going through my old blog posts and the calendar, combining all the details into a long, long post that summarised what’s happened so far in the campaign. The resulting post can be found here: From the Archives, 40 Sessions of Adventure It … Continue reading The City of Greyhawk campaign – all 40 sessions

Once upon a time… News from my Greyhawk campaigns

I recently located an old page where I stored “news and rumours” inspired by my Greyhawk campaigns. The date attached to the file was December 2003, so there has been a *lot* of subsequent adventuring. Players in my games may remember some of the events; others were invented from whole cloth to flesh out the chronicle. The current date in our Greyhawk campaign is about Spring … Continue reading Once upon a time… News from my Greyhawk campaigns

Becoming the Druid of Greyhawk

Martin recently expressed an interest in his character becoming the “Druid of Greyhawk”, the term I use to describe the leader of the Druid’s Grove that services the Free City of Greyhawk and its wilderness. By the old AD&D tables, Martin’s 11th level character was one level away from gaining the “Druid” level (he was a “Initiate of the 1st Circle”). In the original AD&D, … Continue reading Becoming the Druid of Greyhawk

Hooray! Merchants and Marauders on its way!

MilSims just e-mailed me to say they’ve sent my copy of Merchants & Marauders. Guess what I’ll have with me this weekend? The game is for 2-4 players (best with 4, pretty good with 3 and playable with 2) and takes (ahem) about three hours. But it also has really pretty components and interesting game play. And who doesn’t like being a pirate? Well, if … Continue reading Hooray! Merchants and Marauders on its way!

Goodbye, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart (Nicholas Courtney)

I was very young – only four or five – when I began watching Doctor Who. This was back in 1977-8, when Tom Baker was newly the Doctor. However, due to the wonderful way that the ABC was constantly showing (and thus repeating) the program on every weeknight, I got to see an awful lot of Jon Pertwee’s Doctor, and thus – as his recurring … Continue reading Goodbye, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart (Nicholas Courtney)

A lot of gaming over the past 10 years…

I’ve just been updating one of my documents which details (in summary) the Greyhawk campaigns I’ve played in/run. What astonished me is how long ago some of those games are getting! One of my favourite campaigns – the Great Kingdom campaign which had Gofa’s Lawful Evil enchanter, Cassie, and which ended with us going into Gary Gygax’s Necropolis – all hail the Set Rahotep! – … Continue reading A lot of gaming over the past 10 years…

Happiness is… Struggle of Empires

Well, perhaps not. However, I’m pretty happy because I now have a copy of Martin Wallace’s Struggle of Empires on order. It’s likely to arrive some time next week, along with Poseidon and Merchants and Marauders. Struggle of Empires was originally published in 2004, and sits at #68 on the list of top boardgames at BoardGameGeek. That’s a relatively high rating, which undoubtedly the difficulty of acquiring the … Continue reading Happiness is… Struggle of Empires

Greyhawk Campaign – Initial Notes

My Greyhawk campaign has recently been on hiatus whilst Nathaniel has been vacationing in Canada. Now that he’s back, I’m trying to get it running again. Assuming this occurs, here’s a few notes as to where the game was when we suspended it, some of the themes currently in the game, and what I expect to do in the first couple of sessions… Necromancers of … Continue reading Greyhawk Campaign – Initial Notes

A busy weekend forthcoming… and a look at upcoming D&D products.

This weekend is looking to be somewhat dominated by Magic, with D&D getting a look in on Sunday. Friday evening, Good Games Ballarat are running a Mirrodin block draft… that’s right, the old Mirrodin-Darksteel-Fifth Dawn block. Somehow, Mark has managed to get hold of some old booster boxes, so that’s what we’ll be doing whilst waiting for the Mirrodin Besieged prerelease to get underway. (I’d … Continue reading A busy weekend forthcoming… and a look at upcoming D&D products.
