More BattleTech reports

Well, I’ve now posted reports of the 7-8 hours of BattleTech we played on the weekend. It was hot, but we had a lot of fun. First Mission: Supply Run – 4 Mechs of Sorenson’s Sabres vs 4 Davion Mechs. Second Mission: Pursuit – 6 Mechs of the Fox’s Teeth vs 8 Kuritan Mechs. The reports include pictures as well as commentary. 🙂 Thanks for … Continue reading More BattleTech reports

Hot…

Going to be another 40+ degree day here, and it’s already hot. Urgh. Yesterday, we spent a lot of time playing BattleTech. Rich, Josh, Randy and I went at it in two big scenarios; the first a Supply Run of 4 vs 4 Mechs in heavily wooded terrain that lasted about 4 hours (~13 turns).  The next scenario was a Pursuit of 8 vs 6 … Continue reading Hot…

ASL, Conflict of Heroes

Randy and I had a good time last night – he slaughtered me in CoH, then I slaughtered him in ASL. All is right in the world. 🙂 That game is Conflict of Heroes. Randy has only two units visible on the board… the rest are hiding! The full session report is here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/378744 After that, ASL (Starter Kit #1). I’m very happy with my command … Continue reading ASL, Conflict of Heroes

Ad Astraing again

It’s the first real week of term for the year, and I’ve just taken my really dedicated boardgame students for their first class. They were wondering when we could start on the first day of schooland now they’ve organised everything. Regular Ad Astra classes won’t start up until about week 4 or so, but we’ve already started. I introduced them to a game they hadn’t played … Continue reading Ad Astraing again

MilSims are back from their holiday back in Canberra, and so have sent me (and it’s arrived) some of my last order. Boardgames and Roleplaying Weekend

Friday Night saw our brave adventurers investigating rumours of a cult of Iuz in the Free City of Greyhawk, which appears to be led by their one-time-friend. It’s fun to have a PC turn evil, and the players were all very enthusastic to have Adam’s old PC, Archibald, be the villain for the course of this campaign. I’m happy to accomodate that, although it’ll be … Continue reading Boardgames and Roleplaying Weekend

Lifestyle hobbies

I’m attracted to too many lifestyle gaming hobbies. What’s a lifestyle hobby?  It’s a hobby that basically requires you to devote a lot of time to it, over an extended period. D&D is my pre-eminent lifestyle hobby. It’s one I’ve been playing now for (eek!) 28 years or so. That’s quite a chunk of my life, when you think about it. I spend about 16 hours … Continue reading Lifestyle hobbies

100 games

I have a bunch of board and card games. How many? Well, my list is over 100 items now (over 200 if you count expansions). Splitting them by broad category, the list goes like this: Ameritheme Arkham Horror  Battlestar Galactica  Betrayal at House on the Hill  Chrononauts  Citadels  Classic Battletech Cosmic Encounter  Descent: Journeys in the Dark  Doctor Who: The Game Of Time & Space  … Continue reading 100 games

Commentary: the Musical!

Last Friday, our copies of the Dr Horrible’s Sing-along Blog DVDs arrived courtesy of Adam. (And the CDs, for those of us who are huge Joss fans; that means Adam, Sarah and me). I haven’t listened to the regular commentary yet, but I certainly have to Commentary: the Musical! You’ve got to hand it to him: Joss is one twisted individual. There’s actually more music … Continue reading Commentary: the Musical!

Running published 4e adventures

My Sunday campaign has just started through H3: Pyramid of Shadows. In some ways, I think it will be the most successful of the heroic tier adventures. Partly this is because I think the encounters should amuse this particular group of players, but mainly it’s because I’m getting more of a handle on how to run 4e adventures. During the 3e era, I ran a … Continue reading Running published 4e adventures
