New BattleTech stuff

While we’re still waiting for the 25th Anniversary Intro Boxed Set (soon to be retitled the “26th Anniversary” set…) and my BT campaigns are currently in a lull, Catalyst Labs haven’t stopped releasing new and old material. Mostly this has been in PDF. I’m growing very fond of pdf BattleTech books. Whilst I wouldn’t want to have the core rulebooks purely in PDF, for scenario … Continue reading New BattleTech stuff

Upcoming stuff – Minis, Republic of Rome, D&D

First of all, I might need to use minis again: http://img13.yfrog.com/i/28u.jpg/ More to the point, I’ll be getting out the minis for this Sunday’s game – end of Demon Queen’s Enclave, beginning of H3. I know Nate & Adam want the minis; I’ve just been too busy to get them organised. I’ll set them up tonight so they’re ready by Sunday. We got our first … Continue reading Upcoming stuff – Minis, Republic of Rome, D&D

Authors I like and recent reading

I just bought the the latest of the Anita Blake novels, “Flirt”. I also finished it during my lunch break. It’s actually a novella, but hey, it’s the new Anita Blake book! I also paid way too much for it, but… new Anita Blake book! (I also picked up the second book of Robin Hobb’s Dragon duology, I haven’t actually finished reading the first one … Continue reading Authors I like and recent reading

Adam and Greg get hit by the nerf bat in D&D

The latest updates to the D&D rules have been posted and there are some significant changes to powers and rules we’ve been using. First off, Adam has been nerfed. How did this happen? It’s a change to the Orb of Imposition power. “You can designate one creature you have cast a wizard spell upon that has an effect that lasts until the subject succeeds on a saving throw. … Continue reading Adam and Greg get hit by the nerf bat in D&D

Board game sale – new games

Milsims is having their latest boardgame (and RPG) sale. Urgh. I made my order, and they’ve sent out a couple of the items to me. (They should arrive early next week) Fields of Fire – a WW2/Korean/Vietnam solitaire squad game. Monmouth – an American Revolution 2-player wargame (hey, it was $25). However, a few items have wandered out of stock, so I’ll have to wait … Continue reading Board game sale – new games

Nathan Fillion and Simon Pegg

I’ve just been watching (reading?) Nathan Fillion and Simon Pegg engage in a bout of starship envy on twitter. The world is a strange and glorious place.

It’s a little odder since I’m currently playing (or will be playing) a couple of RPGs based on SF shows they’ve been in:

Serenity RPG (for Nathan Fillion) and… the Doctor Who RPG (for Simon Pegg). Yeah, you thought I was going to say Star Trek, didn’t you? No, Simon Pegg appears in the first series of the new Dr Who as the Editor in "The Long Game". Very creepy he is in that too.

Unfortunately, now I’m thinking of what he looked like there: his "whiteness"… and confusing his looks with those of John Simm in Tennant’s Doctor’s finale. Sort of.

Martial Power 2 Interview

Rich Baker and Rodney Thompson discuss the contents of Martial Power 2 in this interview (Insider subscribers only, sorry!), and it’s full of interesting insights.  Of particular note is their discussion of the skirmishing warlord – a version of the warlord that uses ranged attacks, not melee, as its primary means of attack. For those who have looked at 4e – or have played a lot … Continue reading Martial Power 2 Interview
